SHORT BIOGRAPHY:
Joachim Sauter is Professor of Design at the Universität der Künste Berlin. He is a practicing designer in the fields of new media art and new media design. Sauter studied visual communication at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and directing and cinematography at the German Academy for Film and Television in Berlin. He is founder and director of one of Germany’s most influential media design practices, ART+COM, and has received numerous accolades and awards including the Prix Ars Electronica, Bafta Interactive Environment Award, the Design and Art Direction (D&AD) Black Pencil Award, the Design award of the Federal Republic of Germany, Red Dot Communication Design Grand Prix and Gold Cannes Lions. His research projects have been funded through the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Federal Ministry of Education and Research and European Fund for Regional Development. Sauter has also exhibited work internationally at distinguished venues including Venice Biennial, Stejdilik Museum (Amsterdam), ICC (Tokyo), Centre Pompidou, (Paris), Getty Center Los Angeles), MAXXI – Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo (Rome) and KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art (Aalborg).
