SHORT BIOGRAPHY:
Bénédicte Savoy is Professor for Modern Art History at the TU Berlin and holds the International Chair for “Cultural History of Artistic Heritage in Europe, 18th – 20th Century” at the Collège de France in Paris. She is an internationally leading historian specializing in the translocation of cultural assets, the transfer of art and culture and the history of museums and collecting. For her contributions to these fields she received the highly coveted Leibniz Prize from the DFG in 2016. This award recognizes PI Savoy’s research into the emergence of public museums in Germany as an undertaking of political and historical significance. She is a leading voice in the current public debates on the history of collecting under imperial and colonial circumstances and issues of restitution.
